What is post-consumer and post-industrial plastic?
Post-consumer plastic is plastic that has already been used by people and is recovered from the waste stream (bottles, bags, packaging). Post-industrial plastic comes from leftovers and trimmings of manufacturing processes. Both are recycled to create new products without extracting petroleum.
- → Post-consumer: plastic already used by the end consumer.
- → Post-industrial: factory leftovers that never reached the consumer.
- → Both are turned into raw material for new products.
Post-consumer plastic
This is plastic that has finished its job in consumers’ hands: drink bottles, bags, containers and packaging. It is recovered through recycling systems and, once reprocessed, is kept out of landfills and the environment.
Post-industrial plastic
It comes from waste generated during manufacturing: trimmings, defective parts and production surplus. Because it never reached the consumer, it is usually clean and easy to reprocess.
How they become new products
At Ecoplásticos Panamá we recover both types of plastic, process them, and turn them into trash bags, hospital bags and plastic lumber, all 100% recyclable. This is the circular economy in action.

Are products with recycled plastic safe?
